A store’s value beyond its own sales.
Aritzia says digital sales in a market rise by about 65% on average after it opens a boutique there. REVOLVE has opened its first permanent Florida store at Aventura Mall in Greater Miami, a market the company describes as one of its strongest. OVS is using its Indian mall stores to refine its assortment while preparing a local e-commerce launch.
These are three different reasons to invest in a store: developing demand across a market, serving an established customer base and learning what to sell in a new country.
Aritzia put a number on the halo.
At its Investor Day in New York on October 27, Aritzia set out a five-year plan built mainly on US expansion. Karen Janes, executive vice president of real estate, said a new boutique has generated an average lift of about 65% in digital sales in its market.
The boutiques also have to pay for themselves. CFO Todd Ingledew said new stores are currently paying back in under 12 months, while the plan assumes a more conservative 12–18 months. Aritzia expects 87 US boutiques by the end of fiscal 2027 and 160 by fiscal 2032. Its expansion program includes 12–14 new US boutiques annually, entry into 15–18 additional US markets and five to seven repositions of existing boutiques each year. The company also plans a loyalty program spanning boutiques and digital, intended to recognize and reward customers across both channels.
The implication is that store-reported productivity may capture only part of a location’s contribution to the brand. Aritzia has not disclosed how the digital uplift enters its boutique payback calculation or the sales reported to landlords.
REVOLVE builds on a market it already knows.

REVOLVE’s store at Aventura Mall opened to the public on September 29. It is the retailer’s third permanent store, following The Grove in Los Angeles and a boutique in Aspen.
Co-CEO Michael Mente called Miami one of REVOLVE’s strongest markets and described the store as a way to deepen customer relationships beyond e-commerce. The assortment is tailored to the Miami market, combining owned labels such as REVOLVE Los Angeles and Camila Coelho Collection with third-party designers from REVOLVE and FWRD. Dedicated REVOLVE Man and REVOLVE Beauty assortments extend the offer.
The direction is the reverse of Aritzia’s. Aritzia opens a store and watches online sales follow. REVOLVE reads its online demand first and opens where the customers already are. At Aventura, the two share a center, since Aritzia already trades there. That kind of co-tenancy tells a leasing team more about a catchment’s fashion spend than footfall counts do.
OVS is learning India through its stores.

OVS opened its largest Indian store at R City Mall in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, on October 23. The company describes a store of approximately 12,400 sq ft, including about 12,000 sq ft of sales area. It follows Pacific Mall in New Delhi in 2025 and Sky City Mall in Borivali in March 2026. Four further stores are planned by the end of 2027, focused on malls in Tier 1 and selected Tier 2 cities.
The stores are already informing the product mix. Managing director Sundeep Chugh told BW Retail World that European seasonal collections did not always match Indian weather, prompting OVS to adjust its merchandise. Graphic T-shirts and shirts are among the products performing well. Chugh said an India-specific e-commerce launch is planned for the spring–summer 2027 season, with marketplace partnerships a possible later step.
Chugh also puts the Delhi store among its mall’s top two or three brands for trade density. For a leasing team, the useful follow-up is the underlying sales per square foot, reporting period and comparison group. OVS’s longer-term ambition is 25–40 Indian stores over five to seven years, giving those early operating lessons a potentially much larger network to shape.
What we're watching
→ Bath & Body Works opened its first Feel Good concept store at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte on October 23, built around fragrance testing and discovery. Easton Town Center in Columbus and Town and Country in Miami are next.
→ Kith opened its second Canadian flagship at Oakridge Park, Vancouver, on October 23, with Kith Treats behind its own entrance inside the same footprint.
→ TABISIA, Fukuoka Airport. Seven Taiwanese and Thai restaurant brands are confirmed for their Japanese debuts on a 44-unit food floor, opening around summer 2027.
Ranked mall shortlists for expanding brands, fixed-price reports on one center or one brand, and structured databases you can work with yourself.
Aritzia measures what a store does online. REVOLVE uses online demand to choose the store. OVS uses its stores to decide what it will sell, in malls and later on its own website. In each case the location does work that its own sales report does not fully show.
That changes the leasing conversation. Ask an expanding brand what it expects the location to do across the catchment, and which figures it will share to show it. The useful set includes digital sales within the trade area, new customers acquired and trade density against neighbors. A center that can answer those questions has a stronger pitch than one quoting footfall alone.
The store sells the brand. The till only counts the receipt.
